GREENSBORO -- Attorneys for John Edwards say they will not call the former presidential candidate or his mistress Rielle Hunter to testify at his campaign corruption trial.

Defense attorneys also rested their case before noon. The jury is expected to get the case by Friday.

"I'm sure John Edwards would have loved the opportunity to get on the stand," former federal prosecutor Kieran Shanahan said. "But you have to make those calls and they waited til the last minute to make it and obviously Mr. Edwards decided that not taking the stand was in his best interest."

The defense also announced that they would not be recalling Edwards' former aide Andrew Young. Young was the prosecution's star witness, who testified about conversations with Edwards who asked that he take care of his mistress and claim false paternity.

Edwards is accused of masterminding a plan to use money from two wealthy donors to hide his pregnant mistress during his bid for the 2008 White House.

Edwards faces six counts of campaign finance violations. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.

Closing arguments will begin Thursday morning, followed by the judge's jury instructions. The judge said the jury will begin their deliberations on Friday to decide the fate of John Edwards and the six charges brought against him.
