CHARLOTTE – Pat McCrory and his supporters are hoping tonight is one of two election night victories.

The former Charlotte mayor is the presumptive GOP nominee for governor, after coming so close to winning in 2008. He barely lost to Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue then.

McCrory spent most of Tuesday touring precincts around Mecklenburg County. Although McCrory didn't officially announce his second run for governor until earlier this year, he's been campaigning across the state since his loss in 2008.

There's expected to be little drama for McCrory tonight, as he should cruise to the nomination against his five lesser-known, lesser-funded GOP opponents.

From there, the biggest question will be who will be McCrory's general election opponent on the Democratic side.

If McCrory wins tonight and in the general election in November, he will be the first Republican governor since Jim Martin was elected in 1985.
