FAYETTEVILLE – An Army staff sergeant remains in critical condition after an officer involved shooting.

Fayetteville police say 27-year-old Staff Sgt. Mark Salazar was firing a handgun on Pacific Avenue early Saturday morning when he was approached by three officers who ordered him to show his hands.

They say he was shot by one of the officers when he then raised the gun in their direction. Salazar was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The three officers are on leave pending an SBI investigation, which is standard procedure.
