FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville pastor remains under fire after a recent sermon about the Marriage Amendment.

On Sunday protesters of the sermon and the Marriage Amendment demonstrated outside Berean Baptist Church as the pastor delivered his sermon.

"When you say violent, bigoted, hateful things towards homosexuals, transgender community, you wont go UN-criticized,” said protester Jacob Smithee.

Pastor Harris along with members of the church staff and family have received countless threatening emails and phone calls after last week's sermon.

"I would think that they took something out of context, or they failed to listen to a message or I would say even more that they are just being deceptive and devious, the focus is the sanctity of marriage,” said church member David Winslow.

Protesters outside the church on Sunday say Harris is promoting abuse.

"I have an autistic daughter who flaps her hands, does that mean that she is exhibiting homosexual behavior? He needs to think before he talks,” said president of Military Atheists and Secular Humanist Priscilla Parker.

However church members disagree.

"It is painfully obvious that no child will be abused because of what he said,” said church member Richard Luciano.

Many members at Berean Baptist Church say they still stand behind Pastor Harris and they support his sermon last Sunday.
