RALEIGH -- A panel of North Carolina lawmakers is making sure voters are informed about the proposed gay marriage amendment. They are meeting Thursday to come up with a simple explanation of the bill so that the public knows what they are voting for.
The amendment would define marriage as a union between one man and one woman and would prevent the state from sanctioning civil unions or domestic partnerships. The explanation will be made available to the public, but will not appear on the ballot when the amendment is voted on in may.
