Entrepreneur uses reality show experience to teach youth about business

CHARLOTTE – A popular reality show is teaching some local teens about the world of business.
Every week, budding entrepreneurs pitch their ideas on ABC's "Shark Tank" hoping to convince at least one panelist to invest in their products. California businesswoman Shelly Ehler, who landed a lucrative deal this season, talked to students at Phillip O. Berry Academy via Skype on Tuesday about her experience.
"'Shark Tank' allows them to see how e-commerce can be applied to everyday life. The people that are on “Shark Tank” are your normal, everyday people that have an idea and want to try to make it their own business," said Berry Academy e-commerce teacher Sharon Jones.
Ehler pitched her ShowNo 3-in-1 towel to the high-powered panel earlier this season and was picked up.
“It's a good show. I like the show to see businesses and how they negotiate deals like how much money and should they take this deal,"senior Rashad Kee said.
"It shows you that something so small, something as small as an idea that you think of while sitting at home while watching TV, can be taken into a multi-million or billion dollar company," said senior Stephon Griffin, who wants to major in logistics systems.
Jones says she hopes the lessons learned from Ehler and the show will one day inspire these young minds in their own business ventures.
Ehler wouldn't give details, but says she's scheduled to make another appearance on "Shark Tank" later on this season.
