RALEIGH – Testimony continues in the re-trial of a man charged with beating his pregnant wife to death. Wednesday was day three of the second trial, with more emotional testimony from friends and family.
Shelly Schaad describes how her close friend Michelle Young acted right before she was murdered.
“She was just defeated,” said Schaad. “She wouldn't even open up to me any longer about things.”
Friends, family and law enforcement testified during Jason Young's second trial for the murder of his pregnant wife. They spoke about the couple's conflicting personalities and how their relationship ran hot and cold.
“Sometimes they were great and then a lot of times they were fighting,” said Schaad. “They were not shy about fighting in public, pulling us into the middle of it, some much so that it made us uncomfortable at times.”
But Schaad said that's not the only thing Jason did to make people feel uneasy.
“He urinated on the floor in my house, on the rug and my husband threw him in the shower and he ran out completely naked and sat down on the sofa in front of a group of people,” said Schaad.
Also on the stand, a Wake County deputy who arrive on-scene. He said he noticed little blood footprints in the house, so something stood out to him when he saw Michelle's sister, Meredith Fisher, holding the toddler.
“My observation I didn't see any blood on the child,” said Earp. “So spontaneously I asked if she cleaned the child and she said no. I think I expected a yes out of it. I just thought it was kinda odd.”
The words “odd” and “eerie” have been used by witnesses during the first three days of this re-trial. Attorneys continue being very specific in their questioning, down to the smallest details.
