CHARLOTTE-- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man who robbed a 16-year-old Tuesday night at the Seventh Street Station stop along the light rail line in Uptown Charlotte.

The incident happened shortly after 8:15 p.m. A police report said the suspect forced the teen to by a train ticket then took him to an ATM to check his account balance, but the man was not able to get any money.

Police soon arrested Eric Dale Zakobielski, 34, of Charlotte, and charged him with armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping.  Zakobielski also goes by the name Eric Wheeler, a felon who was in jail as recently as a month ago.

CATS security officials say attacks like this are rare on the light rail line.

"It's very uncommon," said CATS General Manager of Safety and Security Bryan Leard. "We have a safe security record. Even our crime stats from year to year have decrease dramatically."

Of nearly 4.8 million riders in 2011, there were 13 reports of robberies on the light rail line. Leard said there are numerous cameras at every station, on every train and bus and in park n ride lots that help to deter criminals.
