NEWTON, N.C. – A Hickory man is accused of slamming his car into a Booze it and Lose it' bus.

Authorities say 21-year-old Douglas Southard ran his car into the back of the bus early Sunday morning during a DWI checkpoint on U.S. 321 in Newton.

Southard was taken to Catawba Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say he was under the influence of alcohol and that charges are pending.
