Halloween isn't the same without all the great decorations, and carved pumpkins are an absolute must. Those who are looking to buy one do not need to look further than the corner supermarket.

Keep in mind that the lighter yellow pumpkins are easier to cut and design, but decompose more quickly than other kinds. They should be carved soon after purchase.

As Halloween approaches, emergency rooms count on seeing children and adults with pumpkin carving-related injuries.

Professional pumpkin carvers have a series of knives and sharp tools, but all amateurs need is a pumpkin-carving kit, seen above.

The original kit was invented by a Detroit man who thought of the idea while waiting for his grandson in the emergency room as he was treated for a pumpkin-carving injury.

With these kits, it is next to impossible to cut or injure oneself with the knife's rounded point and rippled sides, but the blade cuts through a pumpkin like crazy. The kit also includes a scoop for the insides of the pumpkin.

Another safety tip is that masks often obstruct vision. Parents are often advised that children should use make-up instead, but they are rarely told that many kids have allergic reactions to make-up.

Test children in advance to avoid allergic reactions or use hypoallergenic make-up and non-toxic crayons.

More Halloween safety tips will come as the day approaches.
