RALEIGH -- President Barack Obama will be back in the Triangle Wednesday touting the American Jobs Act. The president will begin his day at WestStar Precision in Apex, a company he says will benefit from the Jobs Act. He'll then deliver remarks at Reynolds Coliseum on NC State's campus in Raleigh.
The university gave out around 5,000 tickets to students and other North Carolinians anxious to hear how Obama's American Jobs Act could help them.
But the president's first stop in the Triangle will be to a small business that will benefit from his American Jobs Act. He'll visit WestStar precision in Apex a company of two dozen people that makes specialized parts for the medical and aerospace industries.
"The president is coming to North Carolina to talk about the American Jobs Act because he understands small businesses are the foundation of our economy," said Marie Johns of the Small Business Administration.
The Small Business Administration said two out of three new jobs created in the private sector are in small business.
"Right in North Carolina, over 170,000 businesses are going to be able to take advantage of the payroll tax cuts," said Johns. "Right now, as soon as the bill is passed, that will put more money in the hands of those small businesses."
Garner resident Thomas Allen wants to hear more about the Jobs Act. He waited in line to get a ticket to the president's speech. Allen knows many of his fellow North Carolinians who have been looking for work for a long time.
"I'd like to hear more of his proposals, on this Job Act and what he's going to do down the road," he said.
We'll have complete team coverage of the president's visit to the Triangle. Air Force One is scheduled to land at RDU International around 11 a.m.
We'll carry his speech from NC State live at 12:30 p.m.
