CHARLOTTE -- A sponsorship agreement will save middle school sports this year in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

District leaders announced Wednesday Hendrick Automotive Group will provide the remaining $250,000 necessary to fund the full line-up of all 13 sports at all 32 CMS middle schools.

CMS had planned to reduce the number of sports due to budget cuts.

In return, Hendrick will get naming rights for the statistics announced during breaks at high school athletic events and signage that will be displayed at both middle and high school athletic events.

CMS says it will use the money to help pay coaching stipends and transportation costs.
