WASHINGTON – U.S. officials are warning Americans abroad about possible reprisal attacks in the wake of Osama bin Laden's death.

Shortly after the president's announcement late Sunday night, the state department issued an alert to U.S. embassies saying there was an "enhanced potential for anti-American violence.''

It said Americans living or traveling abroad, particularly in areas that have been hit by anti-American violence in the past, should limit travel outside their homes and avoid large gatherings.
