GARNER—The mother of a 7-year-old murdered three decades ago, is telling her story to North Carolinians.

Marietta Jaeger Lane spoke to groups in the state this weekend, about her daughter Susie's murder, and why she opposes the death penalty. Lane is being sponsored by the Murder Victim's Families for Reconciliation of North Carolina.

In 1973, Lane's daughter Susie was abducted and murdered while the family was on a camping trip in Montana. Lane said she struggled with anger, but eventually forgave the killer and even prayed for him. When he was caught, partly because of information lane obtained from him after he called her home, she asked prosecutors not to seek the death penalty.

"All it does is make another victim and another grieving family. That would not honor her memory. I wanted to aspire a moral principal that would be more befitting of the gift of loveliness that she was for me," said Lane.

Lane travels the world sharing her daughter's story and talking with other murder victim's families. She says its a myth that families of murder victims are in favor of capital punishment.
