Will it snow on Christmas Day?

With Christmas on the horizon, some people have their fingers crossed for the holiday to be “White” outside at some point during the day.

It is certain that you will not wake up to a picturesque, Norman Rockwell scene outside your window. But there is a strong possibility that snow will fall from the sky before the clock strikes midnight on Saturday and Christmas Day turns into Boxing Day.

So what is the current chance in your area? The News 14 Carolina Weather On the Ones forecast team has the following numbers:

100 percent for the Triangle —Which has not happened in Raleigh since 1966, the year Lyndon B. Johnson was president, The Beatles released Revolver, the Supreme Court established the Miranda Rights, and The Sound of Music won Oscar for Best Picture.

100 percent for Fayetteville—Which has not happened since 1989, when the first GPS satellites went into orbit, the first episode of Seinfeld aired, North Carolina celebrated its bicentennial, and George H.W. Bush became president of the United States.

100 percent for the Triad—Which has not happened since 1969, when the first Boeing 747 took flight, doctors implanted the first artificial heart, the first episode of Sesame Street aired, the United States landed a man on the Moon, and the first ATM debuted in N.Y.

100 percent for Charlotte—Which has not happened since 1947, when Harry Truman was president of the United States, the first commercial microwave oven was manufactured, Air Force pilot Chuck Yeager breaks the sound barrier, Best Years of Our Lives wins the Oscar for Best Picture, and the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

90 percent for Wilmington —Which has not happened since 1989, when Rain Man won Oscar for Best Picture, Hurricane Hugo made landfall, the Soviet Union ended its occupation of Afghanistan, and the Tienanmen Square Massacre occurred.

Again, these percentages are only for snow to fall from the sky, as for any accumulation, below is a percentage map, courtesy of the National Weather Service for 1 inch of snow or more through Sunday. The Greens are 20-30 percent and the Blue's are 40-50 percent:
