CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C — Officials with the Department of Veterans Affairs said the disability claims of those suffering from issues related to water contamination at Camp Lejeune will soon be processed at a central location.
According to the Jacksonville Daily News, an official with the Department of Veterans Affairs told members of a community assistance panel that all water claims will be sent to the VA Center in Louisville, Ky. The claims are a way to track the cases and keep the procedure for handling them consistent.
It comes after veterans and their families living on the base reported multiple cases of breast cancer and non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The victims, who lived on the base in the 1950's and 1960's said the illnesses were due to contaminants in the water.
