INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- A Union County family's Christmas tradition is catching on. Cars line their Indian Trail cul de sac to catch a glimpse of the Brown family's light show. It's the fifth year they've decorated their home and the show is bigger than ever because their neighbors are getting involved. It's all being done to help families in need.

In the seemingly quiet Lake Park community, Christmas always comes five months early for one family. "The music selection starts in July, we start programming in August," homeowner David Brown said.

For five years the Brown's have been lighting up their neighborhood, much to the amazement of their smallest fans. "Red is my favorite color," 7-year-old Michael Roberts said while watching the show.

"It's like a one stop shop for everything. It's a great time with the boys," Michael's mother Amber Mengering said. "They love doing it every year."

Each year the show gets bigger. Now 304 lights are on display, all timed precisely to music that can be heard on the radio. On Sunday night, Santa stopped by. "It gives us a chance to put out the real meaning of Christmas for us," homeowner Lisa Brown said.

For them it means giving back to the Union County Christmas Bureau. The show is free but visitors are asked to make a donation. "People fall on hard times," David Brown said. "This charity is right in our backyard. It's helping people here."

Last year they collected $2,600. It's a tradition they hope to continue and grow each year.
