RALEIGH — The trial for a Raleigh doctor charged with killing a young woman in a car accident last year has been delayed.
News 14 Carolina learned on Tuesday there were errors in the wording of the indictment for Raymond Cook, 43, who is charged with driving while impaired, second degree murder and felony death by a vehicle. He is accused of killing Elena Shapiro, 20, of Winston-Salem, who graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Police said Cook was drunk and driving 85 MPH when he hit Shapiro's car in north Raleigh in September of 2009. Since the crash, Cook surrendered his medical license. His lawyers also said he has since taken part in a substance abuse rehab program.
