CABARRUS COUNTY—There is new information about a Cabarrus County motorcycle accident that sent a 12-year-old middle school student to the hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Police and witnesses said it all began when an SUV stopped for a fire truck that was running its lights and sirens, on Odell School Road. Troopers said a motorcyclist behind the SUV had plenty of time to stop, but did not and instead laid the bike down.

The investigation revealed that the cyclist who was also the boy's father was inexperienced and was not supposed to have a passenger. The Iredell County fire truck left the scene but investigators said it is likely the firefighters never knew there had been an accident.

The investigation is continuing and no one has been cited at this time.
