GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission is now investigating what caused several rows of bleachers to give way during East Carolina University's home opener earlier this month. Officials say they're looking for structural defects that may have contributed to the collapse.

Three to four rows of seating gave way, injuring several spectators. Officials removed about 30 other bleachers that showed signs of failing.

Seven thousand seats were added to the stadium over the summer, but state officials say they do not believe the collapse was related to the construction.
