BILOXI, MS — While many people sought cover during Hurricane Earl, there were some who wanted to be in the middle of the action.
As of Friday afternoon, the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, better known as the Hurricane Hunters, had made 16 separate trips through the eye of storm. The Hurricane Hunters were tasked with studying Hurricane Earl and report their findings to the National Weather service.
News 14 Carolina Reporter David Kernodle got a rare opportunity to ride along with the Hurricane Hunters as they passed through Hurricane Earl when the storm was just off the North Carolina coast.
