WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C — Even though Hurricane Earl has passed, it is still creating dangerous water conditions along the North Carolina coast.

Rip current warnings are in effect all along the coast. Lifeguards said they are keeping a close eye on the water for signs of danger.

"It kind of changes now real rapidly with the ocean. So, today there was a lot of swell around and we were seeing some pretty big rips, so we are flying the red flags and advising swimmers to stay out of the water. Tomorrow, we will make that call in the morning," said Capt. Jeremy Owens, Ocean Beach Rescue

Swimmers and inexperienced surfers are being asked to stay out of the water until the dangers of the rip currents has passed.
