MONROE, N.C. -- The man accused of kidnapping a baby in July will be in court Thursday. Lonnie Buchanan is charged with second degree kidnapping.
Monroe police say the 41-year -old man snatched Jallell Howard from outside of doctor's office. The boy's mother was apparently taking the infant to his pediatrician when it happened. The kidnapping triggered a nationwide search and an Amber Alert.
The police later found Buchanan and the boy in a wooded area in Chesterfield, S.C.
A female accomplice, 23-year-old Beaulah Steen, was also charged with kidnapping as well as assault.
Authorities still do not know why Buchanan took the child. Records show he's not the boy's father.
