MONROE, N.C. -- The North Carolina Turnpike Authority received final approval Tuesday for the Monroe connector-bypass route. Now that the route has been chosen, engineers will establish a list of properties in the proposed right of way.
Properties in the right of way will be acquired in the next year and affected owners will be contacted during the next few months.
The bypass is estimated to cost $824 million and will run almost 20 miles from U.S. 74 at Interstate 485 to U.S. 74 between Wingate and Marshville in Union County. Construction plans are still being developed.
