FORT BRAGG -- Some Fort Bragg families may get answers on Tuesday about unexplained infant deaths on the army post. Fort Bragg leaders will host a round table discussion on the post's response to the deaths.
The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating possible environmental, structural or hazardous materials as a cause for the deaths of several Fort Bragg babies. On average, there have been two unexplained infant deaths per year on post since 2006. In 2009, two babies died in the same housing unit three months apart.
Fort Bragg says all the deaths appear to be sudden, unexplained infant deaths, and not a result of foul play.
Medical professionals, members of the criminal investigation division, and a representative from Picerne Military Housing will gather Tuesday to answer questions about infant deaths in Fort Bragg family housing over the last four year. Fort Bragg says while the post continues to investigate the deaths, a focus remains on supporting the surviving families.
