RALEIGH — Technology is a common part of a teenager's life these days, but how many of them actually know the nuts and bolts behind the devices they use?
The organization, Youth Technology Corps, held a camp for some high school students to help them learn the in's and outs of computers. In the process, they donated their services to the state.
“The whole concept, very simply, is that our programs, kids learn to how to fix computers in after school programs. They take those computers once fixed and donate them into their communities,” said David Finkel, Youth Technology Corps president:”
Finkel said that the difficult aspect of education is engaging the students. The teachers can have plenty of fantastic programs, but in the end the programs draw a small percentage of the students. Finkel said that he wanted to develop a program that would get as close to 100% if not all of the kids getting something out of it.
This is the second year YTC has hosted a camp in North Carolina. All together, the students refurbished about 100 computers. If you'd like to learn more about Youth Technology Corps and their upcoming camps, visit their website.
