EMERALD ISLE, N.C. —The dangerous rip currents along our coast have officials on alert.

The Coast Guard said it is ready to spring into action if any problems arise from Hurricane Danielle. Along with rip currents, there is a Small Craft Advisory for the coast. That is why Robert Westbrook, Petty Officer Second Class with the U.S. Coast Guard and the rest of his team is prepared for the very worst.

"It's very important. The public needs to know as much as we need to know. If something happens they need to know who to call, when to call, and the actions taken to mediate the situation," said Westbrook.

There's always someone stationed at the Command Center. That person has to be alert and listen to what is happening, especially concerning this upcoming weekend.

"Staying a little bit more vigilant. As vigilant as we can be. Listening to the radio and ensuring if we get that call we can respond quickly," said Petty Officer Erik Taylor, U.S. Coast Guard.

Coast Guard officials said it is important for swimmers and boaters alike to be aware of the dangerous rip currents from Hurricane Danielle.
