WASHINGTON D.C. — Conservative talk show host, Glenn Beck, led a separate rally at the Lincoln Memorial.

Beck and other organizers said their Freedom Works rally is about paying tribute to U.S. Military personnel. However, some civil rights leaders argue that Beck's message goes against king's appeal for the government to help ensure equality. They also claim the time and location is insensitive, something that Beck called a coincidence.

Speakers spoke about the significance of both the date and "restoring honor" for American troops—including former Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin.

"This rally is about restoring honor for these men and women, honor was never lost. If you look for the virtues that have sustained our country, you'll find them in those who wear uniform, who take the oath, who pay the price for our freedom," said Palin.

Alveda King, a niece of Dr. King, also spoke at the rally. Freedom Works is the non-profit group that helped in the organization of the Tea Party movement.
