WILMINGTON — Starting next month, the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries will reopen Core Sound and Pamlico Sound to large-mesh gill net fishing.
The new restrictions should help protect endangered sea turtles in our waters. Fishermen may only cast nets at night Monday through Thursday. The restrictions also specifically set the size and type of gill nets used. You must have a permit and report any interaction with sea turtles.
The reports will help marine fisheries officials identify hot spots that should be closed.
