RALEIGH — You will soon be able to dine out with you four-legged friends.
The State Department of Environment and Natural Resources announces a new ruling on Friday which gave restaurant owners the option to allow cats and dogs in outdoor eating areas. Some areas of out state have allowed animals in the past, but now rules are statewide.
People in the Five Points neighborhood in Raleigh have been pushing for this ruling to pass.
“I think that's fantastic. We love that! It's one of the things we love about Raleigh. It's a down to Earth town. We can eat a family meal together with our dog,” said Susanne Morais, dog owner.
New guidelines state only cats and dogs are allowed. Animals must stay outdoors and must be restrained. Establishment owners can reserve the right not to allow animals. The rules take effect Sept. 1.
