The Middle Creek Mustangs defeated the Southern Durham Spartans 14-9 Friday night in the Time Warner Cable Game of the Week.

Middle Creek, No. 14 1n News 14 Carolina’s Reeds Jewelers 14 to Watch, easily defeated Northern Durham in week one 31-14.

Second-ranked Jack Britt, who has been a game away from a state title each of the last two seasons, continued its regular-season roll beating Hoke County 27-6.

Mallard Creek, the perennial powerhouse and No. 5 rank, blew out Harding 61-0 in their first home game of the season.

Third-ranked Wake Forest-Rolesville beat out East Wake 38-9.

Rounding out the top five of the 14 to Watch, No. 4 Richmond County beat Lee County 38-21.

In a Piedmont-Triad headliner, Dudley, ranked 10, beat No. 9 Ragsdale Tigers 12-0.

The state’s top team, defending 4AA champion Butler had a bye this week.
