WILMINGTON -- It's still going to be an active hurricane season in the Atlantic, according to the seasonal outlook update Thursday by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's climate prediction center.

NOAA is projecting 14 to 20 named storms including eight to 12 hurricanes. Four to six of those storms could be major hurricanes with winds of at least 111 mph.

NOAA previously said it expected as many as 23 named storms, including up to seven major hurricanes. Tropical Storm Colin dissipated earlier this week over the Atlantic but could regain strength.

On average, the peak of hurricane season is in September.
