NORTH CAROLINA -- It's the largest dropout prevention organization in the country.
The Communities in Schools group helps kids in need get basic school supplies. Right now, leaders from the group are working on the Stuff the Bus initiative.
"We believe that every kid should have the opportunity to begin school with the same tools that every child would have," said Sandy Giacobbi, the executive director for Communities in Schools in Carteret County.
The idea behind the group is for people to donate supplies to needy children.
The store Staples is helping with the cause. "It makes me feel good because we know that the money and the materials are all going to the local kids," said Art Brown. "They're going to the kids in Carteret County."
In Carteret County, the program raised more than $8,000 worth of school supplies last year. It also helped more than 300 families in the county.
