CHARLOTTE -- A terminally ill Charlotte woman and her fiancé are receiving their dream wedding courtesy of an organization that just started up in the Carolinas.

The organization is called Wish Upon a Wedding. On Thursday, the group held its launch party and introduced Yolanda Ellis and Marcus Able as the first couple they will be helping.

Ellis has a rare form of cancer and it’s uncertain how much longer she’ll live. “I’ve been told by the radiologist maybe two years,” she said.

With that prognosis, Ellis and her fiancé contacted Wish Upon a Wedding. The organization, founded in San Francisco in January, helps terminally ill patients put together their dream wedding.

Chapter President Ivy Robinson says putting a wedding like this together is a community effort. “Once everything is approved on the paperwork, we start getting wish granters, and that could be anything from photographers, wedding planners, cake bakeries. Anybody involved that can pull a wedding together. ”

Ellis says she’s thrilled to get this kind of affair planned for her.

Wish Upon a Wedding has launched more than 15 chapters so far this year.
