CHARLOTTE – A Mecklenburg County Superior Court judge raised the bond for Jovany Morales Thursday afternoon.
Morales is accused of driving drunk and killing Frank “Buddy” Cline in a wreck in 2004. Back then Morales made bond, failed to appear in court, then went missing for the next 6 years.
Morales was most recently arrested last week and was linked to those 2004 charges.
Thursday Morales had a bond hearing related to those old charges. The district attorney's office made a motion to have Morales bond revoked because he's considered a flight risk. The judge raised Morales bond to $200,000. The DA's office says that's equivalent to a $2 million secure bond.
Angela Cline, Frank Cline's widow, was in court for the hearing and addressed the court. She says seeing Morales for the first time was tough.
“He's here and Buddy is not,” said Cline as she left the court house. “I don't wish death on anybody, but my husband should be here. If it had not been for him my husband would have been here.”
Morales will be back in court in July.
