WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. – A streaker at the Wrightsville Beach bar scene got more than he bargained for when sheriff's deputies caught up with him.

A YouTube video showed a man running through the streets naked at 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Several hundred people watched New Hanover County sheriff's deputies take down the man with a stun gun.

Authorities say a dare by friends landed Matthew Pick, a 23-year-old ECU student, in the hospital.

Sheriff Ed McMahon says use of the stun gun was not excessive force and that the deputy had the right to use it.

"The only other recourse the deputy would have been to tackle him and then that's hands on and you're fighting someone who is naked and probably all sweaty and intoxicated," McMahon said. "So in my mind this was a good time to use the Taser."

The sheriff has a little common sense advice for the next person who gets a dare.

"My recommendation would be always keep your clothes on when you are out in public," McMahon said.
