NORMAN, Okla. -- North Carolina has made the NCAA baseball tournament field despite not qualifying for the ACC tournament.
The Tar Heels are headed to Oklahoma, which will play in-state rival Oral Roberts in the NCAA tournament opener for both teams.
Second-seeded California (29-23) will play No. 3 seed North Carolina (36-20) in the regional's other first-round game.
The 64-team field for the tournament was announced Monday.
Oklahoma (44-15) learned Sunday it would host a four-team regional for the second straight year and the Sooners received one of 16 No. 1 seeds. The Sooners finished second in the Big 12 Conference this season.
