WILMINGTON, N.C. -- As veterans marched in to post the colors, students at Bellamy Elementary School waved flags in a display of appreciation. The school's Memorial Day celebration honors active military and veterans with speeches, songs and patriotic spirit.
While preparing for the festivities, students learned about the heroes who fight for our country now and in the past. "I am very thankful because they have honored,” said Kenzie Bayliss, a student at Bellamy. “They have worked and they have tried to save our lives."
The ceremony also recognized the honor flight of southeastern North Carolina who sends veterans to Washington, D.C. for free to visit their memorials. Many of the veterans have never seen their memorials in person.
