CHARLOTTE – The mother of two boys killed in a house fire is being held under a $1 million bond.
26-year-old Orgal Opata made her first court appearance Tuesday.
Opata was charged with two counts of murder and felony child abuse after her 1-year-old son Gabriel Hawthorne and his 2-year-old brother, Josiah Hawthorne, died Sunday in a fire at their home on Rowan Street.
Opata's 4-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter were able to escape.
Officials say the children were left home alone.
Opata's next court appearance is scheduled for March 15.
