RALEIGH – Friends and family said a final goodbye to the UNC fraternity president shot and killed by a police officer in Randolph County.

21-year-old Courtland Smith was laid to rest Friday in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

Smith called 911 Sunday and told a dispatcher he had a gun, had been drinking and was going to kill himself.

Police pulled him over, and authorities say there was some sort of confrontation before an officer shot him.

State authorities are reviewing the incident. The officer who fired the gun is on administrative leave with pay.
