CHARLOTTE – The superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is set to tour school sites Tuesday.

Many school districts are in limbo because of the state budget delay, and Dr. Peter Gorman says during the first school board meeting they’ll have to make a guess of what can stay and what has to go.

CMS can’t lay off contracted employees, but they will be making more cuts to the district office and some teacher assistants.

"That's terrible for them too, because they’ve been planning on their job, they’ve been told their OK, told their OK, then we could pull the rug out from under them at the last minute,” said Gorman of possible cuts. “That’s why we’ve got to get a budget. The governor and the legislature got to agree. Let's get this moving."

CMS’ 2009-10 school year begins the last week of August.
