RALEIGH – As the world prepares to pay tribute to Michael Jackson in Los Angeles, residents in the Triangle are getting ready to share their memories about the King of Pop at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Organizers expect between 5,000-8,000 people for the local celebration of Jackson’s life, which will include musical tributes from area groups, as well as prayers from local clergymen and a performance from the Martin Luther King All-Children’s Choir.

Tickets for the local memorial service are $5 per person, and organizers are hoping for a big turnout.

"He gave back so much; more than folks even know,” said event organizer, Jocelyn Williams, in regards to Jackson. “It's just one of those things you grew up with; he was a part of your life. And, you just want to be able to give a tribute back and let the community be able to come together and do that as well."

Tickets are being sold at both the convention center and the Progress Energy box office. Doors to the celebration open at 10 a.m. with the program beginning at noon. At the Raleigh event, the Los Angeles memorial will be live simulcast from the Staples Center.
