HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Dozens of law enforcement officers are patrolling Lake Norman and looking for intoxicated boaters as part of Operation Dry Water, a nationwide crackdown.
Officers with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission met up at Blythe Landing in Huntersville, N.C.
Authorities said finding intoxicated boaters is a little more challenging than looking for drunk drivers on the road because there are no lines to follow. But officers said there are other ways to tell if someone is intoxicated.
“As a result of checking safety equipment, we run across boaters that are boating under the influence,” Sgt. Barry Rowell said. “Sometimes you see some things that clue you into it, holding alcohol in their hand.”
Operation Dry Water continues through the weekend.
