CHARLOTTE – Founders of a new Charlotte drift racing organization hope to confine speed enthusiasts to tracks rather than the road.

Leaders of Street Wise Drift said the more available and safe racing options for led foot drivers, the less likely they’ll want to put themselves or other drivers in danger on the road.

Brian Phillips, the founder of Street Wise Drift, said the group provides an outlet for people who love speed by putting on drift races, allowing not only professional, but amateur drivers to get behind the wheel.

“Illegal street racing is illegal for a reason: because it hurts people. This is the type of arena where people can come out and play and play safe,” Phillips said.

Street Wise Drift is hosting another event on May 9 at the Metrolina Expo.
