Numerous events planned for MLK Day

GREENSBORO -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a week from Monday, but many organizations have events planned for well before the day:

•Guilford College is holding a series of events called “Activism: Then and now.” All are free and open to the public. “Share your Dream” and “Join Students for a Change” kicks off on Monday from noon till 2: 30 p.m. in the Founders Lobby and will continue everyday but Wednesday of this week.

•On Jan. 14, people can watch King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and join a discussion afterwards. That’s from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Community Center.

•In the other side of Greensboro on Thursday evening, N.C. A&T students and faculty will hold an observance program at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Student Union.

•On Jan. 19, thousands will march in Greensboro’s Unity March from the MLK Monument downtown. That’s from 2:30-6 p.m.

•In Winston-Salem on Jan. 19, people can join Winston-Salem State and Wake Forest universities for the annual joint Martin Luther King Jr. Program. Award-winning actress and political activist Ruby Dee will deliver the keynote address. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem State’s Kenneth R. Williams Auditorium.
