CONCORD -- Police hit the streets Tuesday morning to develop leads in last week’s double homicide at the Sun-drop Bottling Company.

Two dozen officers, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers handed out more than 1,000 fliers Tuesday at the busy intersection in front of the plant in hopes that someone knows something about the shooting that killed Donna Barnhardt and Darrell Noles on Friday.

Barnhardt worked at the plant for 18 years, Noles was applying for a job.

“We were just handing out fliers and if anyone knew anything, traveled this area last Friday, we'd like to talk to them,” said Maj. Wendell Rummage of the Concord Police Department. “This mission this morning is to try and develop additional leads in the case that involved the murders from last Friday here at the Sun-drop Bottling Company,” explained Rummage.

Officers walked along the yellow lines of Branchview Drive, Cabarrus Avenue and Old Salisbury-Concord Road. Griping fliers, they approached drivers who were curious what the scene was all about.

“You can't do this job without the support of the community and the information they have,” said Rummage.

He said Concord Police Department had done a similar canvas in 2001 when a man was shot at a rest stop along Interstate 85.

Police cars were parked along the road with sirens flashing to alert approaching drivers. As cars rolled forward toward the intersection, officers leaned into the window to make their plea for help.

“And the least little details do help and the community has been great to provide that,” said Rummage. “We did pick up a few good things, a handful of tips today and we're going take that and work on it when we get back to the office.”

Concord police plan to be back out at the intersection Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to see if they can find anyone who may have driven by on the day of the shooting.

The person seen leaving the scene of the shooting was described as a black man in his early 20s, with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Cabarrus Crime Stoppers at (704) 93-CRIME.
