RALEIGH -- Allison Quets, the birth mother who kidnapped her twins in 2006 from their adoptive parents in Apex, appeared in court Wednesday seeking visitation rights to see her children.

Judge Ann Salisbury heard from lawyers on both sides but did not make a decision. She wants more time to look at the information in the case.

Quets pleaded guilty to kidnapping the children and fleeing to Canada. She was put on federal probation after spending most of the time between her arrest and sentencing date in jail.

The adoptive parents, the Needham family, asked the judge to close the courtroom due to the extensive media coverage. The judge closed Wednesday's hearing since it dealt with the adoption proceedings, but she did not ban the media from future hearings.
