WINSTON-SALEM -- In honor of a fallen officer, Majic 94.1 raised money in his memory Wednesday with the Bob and Leslie Celebrity Treadmill Challenge.
Sgt. Howard Plouff was killed back in February following a shooting outside the Red Rooster Nightclub on Jonestown Road in Winston-Salem. The charity event in his honor is a combined effort of the oldies radio station, Peak Fitness and Winston-Salem Police. Proceeds go to the Howard Plouff Memorial Fund and 5K Run.
The Celebrity Treadmill Challenge was held to promote this weekend’s run in Bethabara Park.
"We hate so much that we lost Sgt. Plouff,” said Allen Joines, mayor of Winston-Salem, “but I think this event will help provide funds for his family and the other good causes that the foundation supports."
The Celebrity Treadmill Challenge was held to promote this weekend’s run in Bethabara Park.
The event was not only in honor of Plouff, but was also a chance to show appreciation to all officers.
"The police just do such a great thing for the community,” said Marcus Luke, regional manager of Peak Fitness. “They're always out there taking care of us, helping us feel safe."
Joines agrees. “Everyday these men and women go out and all night, and protect us and we don't think about it until something happens to us or something happens to one of them that how dangerous their jobs are."
The memorial run is Saturday, Nov. 10 at Bethabara Park in Winston-Salem. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and there is a $30 registration fee.
