"Bin It!" is a win-win-win app, since it's a fun mini-game for killing some time, some may actually learn something and there’s opportunity to actually earn a thing or two while playing.
The user throws all sorts of recyclable items into the recycling bin with obstacles like wind and animals trying to get in the way. Before each round, the user gets a neat little fact about recycling or going green.
For the next two months, though, the game has teamed up with Recycle Bank, an online service that rewards people for green behavior. Users earn points for doing things ranging from recycling specially marked cereal boxes to signing up for services that switch their home energy provider to one that's greener.
The points accumulated are then redeemable for all sorts of stuff: food, clothing, beauty supplies.
Circling back to the “Bin It!” game, for eight weeks points accumulated in the game will also accumulate as points in the users’ Recycle Bank account, up to 65 points.
To help individuals continue getting greener in the real world, there is “My Recycle List.”
All that stuff in a home or at work that people know they should be recycling but don't because, quite simply, they’re not sure how to, well, this app solves that problem.
From car parts to paint thinner, users select a category, then an item to recycle and based on their location, the app will show a list of places to take the stuff for proper recycling.
This app is run by 1-800-Recycling.
“My Recycle List” is a free iOS and Android app.
