Hurricanes agree to one-year deals with two defensemen
RALEIGH - The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to one-year deals with defensemen Brett Carson and Bryan Rodney.
The team announced the deals Monday. Carson will earn $522,500 on the NHL level and $50,000 on the American Hockey League level, while Rodney will make $550,000 in the NHL and $55,000 in the AHL.
Team vice president and assistant general manager Jason Karmanos said in a statement that both players will have a chance to compete for a roster spot this fall.
The 23-year-old Carson played in five games with the Hurricanes and ranked second among defensemen with 35 points in Albany, Carolina's AHL affiliate.
The 25-year-old Rodney played in eight games with Carolina last year and led Albany's defensemen with 36 points.
